As part of the festive graduation ceremony of the medical faculty on the 16th of December, the student council of the medical faculty awarded Prof. Dr. Dirk Reinhold the „Studierendenpreis für besonderes Engagement in der Lehre“. With this prize, the students honored his dedication to the establishment of a master's degree program in immunology, which he was integral to coordinating.
The German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved a continuation of the the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 854, which has existed at the Otto-von-Guericke University (OvGU) since 2010. After a successful evaluation of the research cluster, the DFG described the work of CRC 854 as excellent and approved a grant to the sum of 12.5 million Euro for 2018 to 2021.
Researchers from the Health Campus Immunology, Infectiology and Inflammation (GC-I³), which is part of the medical campus of the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, have shown for the first time that targeted contact occurs between dendritic cells and mast cells in living organisms with exciting functional consequences.
An international team led by researchers from the university hospitals in Magdeburg and Bonn discovered a braking mechanism initiated by the body, which has limited the effectiveness of immunotherapies targeting cancer until now. Furthermore, the scientists were able to show that a combination of targeted inhibitors turn off this mechanism and can improve these immunotherapies. The results of their research were published in the current issue of the prestigious journal „Immunity“.
From the 26th to the 28th of October 2017, the Health Campus Immunology, Infectiology and Inflammation (GC-I³) informed visitors in the Allee-Center Magdeburg about the causes and treatments of various diseases, especially metabolic syndrome and cancer. Many visitors used the chance to learn more about these exciting topics and talked with the doctors and staff of the GC-I³.
